Local Resources

In Powell River we are blessed with a sharing culture and this is very evident in garden world. For people new to Powell River or gardening or social media I'm listing some places worth checking out.

Vegetation Station is a community radio show about the wonderful world of plants, hosted by Ioni Wais and broadcast live every Sunday (5-6 PM) from CJMP 90.1 FM
As part of CJMP's weekly programming, the show is a garden-salad of discussion, resources, events, and more, all related to people, plants, and place. Vegetation Station touches on topics as diverse as gardening, herbalism, homesteading, ecology, food security, plant mythology, nutrition, mycology, and more. www.vegetationstation.ca/p/home.html

Our Powell River Garden Club facebook page. Ask questions, catch up on meeting news and swap plants. www.facebook.com/pages/Powell-River-Garden-Club/410077229025018

Powell River Garden is a great place for getting advice on local gardening and buying and swapping plants.

On Powell River Swap and Shop you will often find items useful for gardening-pots, lumber, machinery etc www.facebook.com/groups/powellriverswapnshop

Same goes for Powell River Things For Free

The Urban Homesteading School of Powell River runs excellent workshops and information sharing evenings. http://fiddlersfarm.com/uhspr/

Today's Local Food This group is for anyone to share the local foods they ate today, whether vegetarian or carnivorous. It's not intended to be a competition, but an inspiration. What did you eat today that was produced locally? www.facebook.com/groups/todayslocalfood

Three gardening blogs, although not local, are in my opinion, some of the best garden writing available:

Gardens Eye View Two regular features: Simply the Best Natives and Flower Tales are packed with information

Three Dogs In A Garden check out the post on dark foliage-superb

Casa Mariposa the writer knows her stuff and is funny too.

Our garden centre staff are always friendly and helpful: Springtime, Mother Nature & Eternal Seeds.

In the spirit of sharing please add your go to places in the comments section or on our facebook page.
