Floating Garden Visit

On Friday, June 22, twenty-one Powell River Garden Club members met Wayne Lutz at the Shinglemill public dock to take a ride up Powell Lake to visit Margy’s Lutz float garden.
The tour was organized by Gwen Jubb and Judy Youngman, the Club’s garden tour directors. After a 30-minute tour of the lower lake, members arrived at the Lutz’s float cabin at Hole in the Wall. Margy started with a tour of the cabin and the garden containers positioned around the various decks. Club members helped with lots of good suggestions for gardening problems, and shared experiences with each other. The float garden was a highlight of the tour. It contains four raised beds on a cedar log float that was constructed by their friend and cabin builder John. In the small space lettuce, spinach, kale, onions, garlic, peas, broccoli and herbs were getting off to a good start. Each tour ended with refreshments provided by Gwen and Margy and plenty of time to chat and share garden stories. A good time was had by all.

Here are pictures of the three groups that came up the lake.
